Chex Mix

I am a huge snacker…especially if I am watching tv or in the car for long periods of time. In an attempt to make as few stops as possible while driving up to Roosevelt Lake for Labor Day, I decided to make my own snacks. Chex Mix is one of my favorites and I had heard it was simple to make at home. Well once I went to the Chex website to look at the recipe I got super excited. There were so many yummy variations..how could I just make one – and what seemed to be the most boring one of all?? Well I decided I would just have to make a few! After all, there were a lot of other people to share in the snacking ;)

I forgot to buy wheat Chex cereal so I skipped it and added more of the corn and rice cereal. Also, I’m not too fond of nuts so I left those out too.

Chex Mix – The Original
Ingredients:
4 ½ cups Corn Chex cereal
4 ½ cups Rice Chex cereal
1 cup of pretzels
1 cup bagel chips – bite size
1 cup Gardettos rye chips
6 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 ½ teaspoons seasoned salt
¾ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder

Directions:
In a large microwave bowl, mix cereals, pretzels and chips; set aside. In a small microwavable bowl, melt butter in the microwave, about 40 seconds. Stir in seasonings and pour over cereal; stir until evenly coated.

Microwave mixture on High 5 to 6 minutes, stirring thoroughly every 2 minutes. Spread on a paper towel lined cookie sheet to cool. Store in an airtight container

Makes 24 – ½ cup servings
