Vanilla Ice Cream with Strawberry Glaze

For countless months I have been drooling over The Perfect Scoop. Its quite possibly the greatest ice cream cook book ever and its full of recipes for sorbets and granitas too. We have an ice cream maker but its an old fashioned one that requires ice and rock salt and needs to be hand cranked. While it is fun sometimes, I have wanted an ice cream maker attachment for my Kitchen Aid mixer. Knowing that it was on my list of things I wanted to added to my kitchen gadgets and I’m sure mostly fed by his desire to have more homemade ice cream – Lance got the attachment for me for my birthday!

The next task was to decide what would be my first flavor to try in my new toy. I ended up deciding on a basic French style vanilla ice cream and making a strawberry sauce to top it. I think it was an excellent choice for the first batch and the sauce was really good. Both Lance and I don’t mind strawberry seeds so I skipped the final step in preparing the sauce that calls for straining the seeds out.
