Chinese New Year

Lance and I have spent countless valentines days together, so we jump at any opportunity to avoid the massive crowds at movie theatres and uber-packed restaurants. This year we opted to stay home and invite a few friends over!

This was our second time throwing a Chinese New Year party. I absolutely love it! Its a chance to get our friends together and celebrate the new year, but without all the stress of the holiday season. This year I was a little unsure if we would have a decent turnout since the New Year landed on Valentines Day. I was excited to find out that many of my friends felt the same way as I do about the holiday.
I had a ton of food to make and not a whole lot of time to do it, so I didn't get any pictures. One of my friends took a few so I have posted those. It was so fun to decorate everything in red for the party, it really helped pull the whole theme together.

So here was my menu:

Appetizers - spring rolls and crab wontons

Dinner - Fried rice, stir-fried veggies with glass noodles, sweet and spicy Asian drumsticks, pork dumplings and veggie dumplings

Desert - Chocolate dipped fortune cookies

...And this was my favorite part - I took some Chinese food take-out boxes and embossed them. Inside was a CFL bulb with a note that read "wishing you a bright and lucky new year". Everyone loved them!
