Doesn’t the name of this race alone sound amazing?! Who wouldn’t want to run in their undies? Haha
I signed up to run this race with Ari – and I spent about a good week trying to hunt down some super hero undies. I didn’t have much luck but Ari gave me a tip about some Batman ones a Target, I am so glad she told me about them because they are awesome! Once I had a pair of undies I was ready for the race!
Or at least sort of – I unfortunately scheduled a long run on Friday morning (also with Ari!) to do 9 miles – which we seriously rocked! By the time Saturday morning rolled around I was sooo sore, all of my muscles were extremely stiff despite excessive stretching. I guess that’s what I get for skipping my long run for two weeks in a row…

When we got to the race area I was really excited to do the run – first of all it was chip timed (yay!) and it was downtown, somewhere I haven’t had the chance to run yet.
This race was a bit on the smaller side, but was one of the most enthusiastic crowds I have ever seen. There were so many people there to support the Colon Cancer Alliance. There were some great t-shirts – my dear friend Jessica's mom’s team had shirts that said “What's Up Your Butt?…Scope It Out!” how awesome is that?! And there were quite a few funny undies as well! There was also a guy wearing the exact same outfit as Ari – even down to the green shoes!
They started the 1 mile fun run/walkers before they started the 5k run – which I thought was really odd. So Ari and I stood around the starting line waiting for our turn to start the run. It was actually quite chilly too – I am so not used to this semi cold AZ weather! But once I got running I was soo thankful for the cold breeze!
They had some cheerleaders at various parts along the course – however on our first time going past them they weren’t really cheering, more like chatting with one another, with the occasional “woo” or clap. Once we looped back around and we were headed towards the finish line they were doing quite a bit more cheering though. Can there be cheerleaders every time I run? That would be fantastic ;)
Ari and I started at about the same pace so we decided to run with each other until one of us felt like we wanted to run ahead of the other, it ended up working out really well! The entire race I thought that I was trying to keep up with Ari and she thought that she was trying to keep up with me – somehow it pushed us both to run a bit faster than normal (and I definitely didn’t mind!)
My final chip time ended up at 28:03 – which is a 9:02 pace!! I was blown away :) With really sore legs I managed to pull off a new PR! And it was a PR by a lot too! That is an awkward finish line photo but I like how the lady in white next to me is giving me a dirty look – its amusing…its probably because I’m smiling like someone just told me there were cookies after finish line ;)
After the race we headed to St. Francis for breakfast – which was absolutely wonderful. Turns out I am a huge fan of breakfast after a fabulous run :)
YAY!!! I had so much fun running with you!! :) Also, I will be your cheerleader next time we run together. I will randomly yell and cheer and clap and maybe even do tricks. It will be amazing.
