This was another last minute race for me – I decided to run it on Thursday but wasn’t able to register online so we had to wait until we got there Sunday morning for the race. After we registered Chelle and I went to walk around a bit, then noticed that our friend Hillary was there with her family to do the walk! We hung out with them for a bit before the race started.
This was a chip timed race for the runners so we took a pic of our shoes :)
I decided to try out using some Rock Tape to see if that will help relieve some of the pain I have in my knees when I run – the good news is that it work really well for my right knee, but not quite so well for my left – which is kind of weird.
Before we headed to the starting line we posed for a picture with the Phoenix Coyotes mascot!
As soon as we started the race I had a spaz klutz moment and dropped my ipod…then someone kicked it before I could pick it up. Fail. By the time I grabbed it the front was completely shattered..but I was thankful it still worked! But I’m not going to lie, its all I could think about the entire race haha.
The majority of the race was through the Phoenix Zoo so I decided to being my camera for the run in case I saw any animals out and about! I snapped this random picture of the lake at the zoo – nothing too spectacular tho haha. I tried to get a few more picture of the zebras and giraffes but the sun was so bright none of them came out :/
But Chelle and I did manage to stop momentarily to get some pictures in front of the flamingos :)
It was a really fun run overall! I love that it went through the zoo – which was also awesome since it’s pretty shaded most of the way around :) I ended up finishing in 32:50 – I’m completely happy with that (totally worth the extra time to get the pictures!)
I was super excited when we crossed the finish line and was handed a medal – its only my second one so I still get excited when I get one at a race! They also had tons of booths with vendors after the race handing out TONS of stuff. I was psyched about the coconut water and there was lots of new stuff to try!
Aw I was hoping the Rock Tape worked! I hate wearing my knee braces, too hot!
ReplyDeleteRunning through the Phoenix zoo must have been really fun! :)
Metals are the best! I've completed 3 5Ks (in 2005) but it wasn't until my recent duathlon that I received a metal. Honestly, it was the main reason I signed up.
ReplyDeleteDanielle - I was hoping it would work too! I am working on rebuilding the strength in my knees so I am hoping it will help more in the future :)
ReplyDeleteCarolyn - Yeah! I'm not going to lie, that's why I signed up for the 5k I'm doing in November. I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that haha! And I believe that the Iron Girl 10k has a medal too ;)
