When I was shopping at Target the other day I came across this little gem – Count Chocula cereal! I couldn’t resist and had to get it, along with some Franken Berry cereal. I remember these cereals from when I was a kid – I don’t remember ever getting it, but I remember wanting it! Does anyone else have any memories of the monster-themed cereals?
I thought that these would make some fun Halloween themed treats – I mean who doesn’t love chocolate cereal with bat shaped marshmallows in it?!? Mixing in some peanut butter turned out to be a fabulous addition – these things are tasty and I think they would be one of those easy treats to bring to share since they only take a few minutes in the microwave. I recommend picking up a box of Count Chocula (or one of the others!) if you see them since they are only around during Halloween!
I added a drizzle of candy melts and some sprinkles (chocolate jimmies and pumpkin shapes) to add a little extra Halloween pizzazz to mine, but feel free to decorate as desired!
Peanut Butter Count Chocula Cereal Treats
Ingredients:
4 cups mini marshmallows
Cooking spray
Peanut butter
6 cups Count Chocula cereal
Orange candy melts (optional)
Sprinkles (optional)
Directions:
Coat a 13x9 pan with cooking spray, set aside.
Spray a microwave safe bowl generously with cooking spray and pour in mini marshmallows. Microwave on high for 2 minutes. Stir in peanut butter and microwave for an additional minute or until marshmallows are completely melted. Mix in Count Chocula cereal until completely coated in marshmallow mixture. Pour mixture into prepared pan. Using a spatula, press cereal into pan until evenly covered. Let cool completely.
Once mixture has cooled, drizzle with orange candy melts and sprinkles, if desired. Slice into squares before serving.
